The Cecil and Harriet Sutton Collection documents the lives of two Greencastle residents through genealogical, professional, and community records spanning the 1920s to the 1990s. Cecil J. Sutton (1903–2000) was a graduate of Reelsville High School, a businessman in Greencastle, and an employee of the Indiana Department of State Revenue. Harriett E. Sutton (1906–1999) graduated from Greencastle High School in 1924 and DePauw University in 1928, later working at the Greencastle Federal Savings and Loan Association until her retirement in 1968. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Kappa Delta Sorority, and the Business and Professional Women’s Club. The couple married in 1944 and lived in Greencastle for the remainder of their lives. Materials in the collection include genealogical notes, family Bible records, clippings, personal and professional papers, photographs, and property documentation. Of particular note are photographs of the Suttons’ homes on Manhattan Road, West Walnut Street, South College, Seminary Street, West Poplar Street, and Arlington, providing visual documentation of Greencastle residential history. Also present are Republican Party convention badges, reflecting Cecil and Harriet Sutton’s political activity. The documents are arranged alphabetically by type and then chronologically within each type.
