The Cloverdale Cemetery Association Records were created by the Cloverdale Cemetery Association, Cloverdale, Putnam County, Indiana, and were donated by the Association. The records document the Association's management of the cemetery, including its financial affairs, governance, and the sale and transfer of burial lots. The records span 1881 to 1976. The earliest volume includes a copy of the Association's Articles of Association, recording its establishment on February 25, 1867, the only instance in the records where the circumstances of the Association's founding are described. The materials consist of four bound volumes of minutes, one book of lots sold and receipts, correspondence, blueprints, and a map. The earliest volume covers 1881 to 1905 and contains minutes, the Articles of Association, and records of lots sold and receipts. A second volume covers 1906 to 1926 and contains minutes of a similar nature, with the minutes of a 1957 meeting later inserted at the end of the volume. A third volume covers 1927 to 1947 and appears to contain the original minutes for that period. A fourth binder covers 1928 to 1976 and contains minutes for the same years as the third volume, at times in the form of copies rather than originals, along with correspondence concerning the sale of lots, transfer of ownership, and permits. The minutes address the setting of fees for lot sales, grave openings, and placement of monument bases, the election and duties of trustees and directors, upkeep of the chapel, and the purchase of equipment. Meetings were generally held once annually, with additional special meetings called as needed. Also included are five blueprints by Wayne M. Weber of Terre Haute, Indiana, detailing the foundation, mechanical plans, floor plans, elevations, and sectional details for the cemetery chapel, built in 1957 for Roy W. Crowmer in memory of his wife, Elva Myrtle Crowmer. A map of the cemetery plots, created in 1935 by Thomas J. Nixon, who served as the Association's secretary from 1920 to 1939, is also included. Formats present include bound volumes, loose correspondence, blueprints, and a map.
