Content Description

The Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department Records were created by the Cloverdale Township Volunteer Fire Department (CTVFD), Cloverdale, Putnam County, Indiana. The bulk of the material was produced by Francis Berry (1924-2014), a Cloverdale native and World War II combat medic who served as the department's official photographer following his retirement and return to Cloverdale from Michigan. The records span 1992 to 2001 and include photographs, negatives, and video recordings on VHS tape. The photographs and negatives, housed in more than 400 envelopes, date from 1992 to 1995 and depict emergency responses ("runs"), vehicle and building damage, and department members performing their duties. Many envelopes and individual photographs carry annotations, typically the date of the run, the run number, the general location of the incident, and additional notes Berry considered relevant. The VHS tapes date from 1998 and from 2000 to 2001 and cover a class on terrorism, the department's building and equipment, and additional runs. The records are unarranged and remain as received. The envelopes show some indication of an original order by date or run number, though this order has not been verified or imposed and should not be assumed to be consistent throughout.
